LAHORE: The fifth Chief of Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship will commence at the Royal Palm course here on Friday.

The announcement of the three-day event was made by Pakistan Navy Commodore S.M. Shahzad during a news conference at the Royal Palm Golf Club, also attended and addressed by Royal Palm’s general manager Omer Mir, director golf retired Col Jameel Khalid and director media Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed.

“Pakistan Navy realises the importance of promoting sports like golf and hence considers holding and supporting a championship of this status an essential component of the whole process,” Commodore Shahzad stated.

They detailed that the for entry to the event in the men’s category, the entrant must have a handicap of twelve and below. Ghazanafar Mehmood of Garden City Bahria Golf Club will be defending his crown.

The event will also see competition in seniors, ladies and juniors category.

The age bracket for seniors is 55 and above with a handicap of 14 and below with Javed A.Khan of Lahore Gymkhana defending his title.

Ghazala Yasmin of Garrison Club is the defending champion in the ladies’ event — open to those with a handicap of 30 and below.

Gujranwala Golf Club’s Ali Anish will look to be crowned champion again in the juniors event, open to players under 18 years of age having handicap 24 and below.
