KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Thursday that his government would have "no objection" if army is deployed at sensitive polling stations for the forthcoming local bodies election, adding that precautionary security measures have been taken to maintain law and order in the areas.

Necessary security arrangements have been made in 15 districts of three divisions for the election, he told media, after laying the foundation stone of the Rs750 million Korangi Crossing Flyover project at the Korangi Crossing in Karachi.

"Only two districts, Sanghar and Badin, have been declared most sensitive. However, only some union councils in the remaining 13 districts are sensitive too," he said.

"We have no objection if army is deployed at the polling stations in aid to the civil administration," he said, adding that a plan to deploy police and Rangers personnel has already been worked out.

The chief minister said that the culprits of the Daraza Sharif incident have been arrested.

He added that his government had already requested the chief justice of Sindh High Court to appoint a judge to conduct a judicial inquiry into the tragic incident.

Responding to a question, the chief minister said that he had spoken to Pir Pagara regarding the action taken against the culprits of Daraza Sharif and also discussed with him the precautionary measures taken to hold safe and sound local bodies elections in 15 districts, particularly in Sanghar.

"I am sure Pir Sahab Pagara is satisfied," he hoped.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah reiterated that necessary measures have been taken to provide "fool-proof security" in the districts where local bodies elections are being held.

Talking about the Korangi Crossing flyover, the chief minister said that it was being built for Rs750 million, adding that it has two levels. The first level would cost Rs404.9 million.

"The local government minister is hardworking and would personally monitor day to day progress of the project. It would be great facility for the people living in the area and for Korangi Industrial zone," he said.

Also present at the occasion were Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah and Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo along with Administrator Karachi Sajjad Abbasi, Municipal Commissioner Sami Siddiqui and others.

The flyover's length is 408 metres and it would be completed in 12 months.
