ISLAMABAD: Capital police claimed on Tuesday that crimes in the city had declined this year.

According to police, the performance of all police stations remained satisfactory as they arrested 1,608 criminals involved in various crimes including murder and robberies besides recovering looted items worth Rs321 million.

A total of 838 criminals and 849 proclaimed offenders were arrested during this period.

So far this year, 159 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in murder cases.

In all, 697 robbers involved in 331 cases were arrested and looted items worth more than Rs90million were also recovered, police added.

During the period, 330 car thieves and snatchers were nabbed and 167 vehicles and 89 motorbikes were recovered from them, the police said, adding that a total of 170 vehicles stolen from other districts were recovered while 397 proclaimed offenders and 449 courts absconders were also nabbed.
