English batsman Joe Root accuses Wahab Riaz of ball-tampering

DUBAI: Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz was accused of ball-tampering by English batsman Joe Root during the ongoing Test match between the two countries in the UAE but no evidence of wrongdoing was presented, said team sources on Sunday.
Riaz was apparently accused of tampering the ball during England's second innings on the fourth day of the second Test match.
But the match referee or other match officials have not asked Riaz for an explanation, nor has any other Pakistani player or official been contacted in this regard, sources in the Pakistan team said.
Riaz was the pick of the bowlers in the first English innings, picking up four crucial wickets to set the match up for Pakistan.

In 2006, Pakistan had forfeited a Test match against England – the first time this had happened in 129 years of Test cricket – after the officiating umpires, Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove, penalised them five runs for ball-tampering.
Inzamamul Haq, then Pakistan's captain, was punished for his role in Pakistan's unprecedented forfeit of the fourth Test against England at the south London ground.
Pakistan had twice refused to take the field after tea on the fourth day of the fourth Test against England on Aug 20, 2006.

It is beginning to become a big joke! Let us take it very serious and take the accusing player to task. How can Wahab, or for that matter, any player can tamper the ball in the presence of dozens of deep-rooted camera eyes that are recording and available for review every mini-second of the game?

Enough is enough of tempering accusation , when ever England batsmen do not know how to handle reverse swing they accuse Pakistani bowlers for ball tempering .Now its time for ICC to tell teams that for false accusation they can be be penalized very harshly ,it is not a joke when ever you want you accuse other team for wrong doing.

England getting on the act again trying to get a forfeiture as they can't win. Joe Root should have left to the umpires instead of playing cricket in a bad taste. Per Cricinfo match report: "Wahab kicked the ball along the turf at a drinks break (fairly innocently, replays suggested)". Matter closed then!!!

ICC should take this seriously and if Wahab come clean than Joe Root should get punished. Enough of this baseless accusation from English and Australian players. I think English players already give up and know that they will lose this test and now trying to find excuse to cover their poor performance.

if found guilty of 'ball-tampering' Wahab should be punished hard. if same is not the case, then J Root should not be allowed to play next test at least, an inquiry is requested to punish one of the two involved in the caption and clear the situation.
after ind and aus, seems brit rats are also getting the fever of big3 on their heads. this should be dismantled, sooner the better for game.

Everything against the spirit of game.. England should stop making themselves a laughing stalk like this. With countless cameras available and heavy contingent of match officials including two umpires that keep checking the ball, i fail to see how and when the ball was tampererd, having watched the game live.
As for the forfieture, the whole world knows that it was also the only game where there was no evidence of ball tampering other than a ball with a cut on it. That cut could not have come from a human finger and I saw KP one ball before that hit an enormous boundary. Very likely that the ball hit concret or metal cause big graze on leather skin.

Ball tampering is a serious offense. Si is the accusation and slander. If,Wahab is guilty ,then give him exemplary punishment. On the other hand,if this is some psychological ploy to put Pakistan under pressure ,punish the accuser too.

Root should be penalized for such an accusation. I think a ban of one test match ban, five ODIs, or ten T20Is with 50% match fee is an appropriate punishment. Accusing someone of ball-tempering is call someone a cheat or dishonest. It is a slanderous statement and is very serious matter. For once, I hope ICC is is fair to Pakistan.

It's an old habits of their to demean the opponents using their mouths when they are overwhelmed in the cricket grounds. I'd suggest the the board take a firm stance on it, by asking them to provide proof to substantiate their claims otherwise pay for disparaging the players in damages.

Root accusation is product of a deranged mind. It is a mind game. Oldest trick in the book that England and biased English media has used against Pakistan time after time. In this instance, I am sure, the idea is to upset the one player who will do the most damage to England batters tomorrow.
I think ICC should take Root to task, produce the evidence or shut up. Either way Root should be made to pay for his unprofessional conduct at best or suspended and fined hugely. What about all the frequent kicking the ball - that ball tempering of worst kind?

Let the umpires decide with video evidence. If the allegatoon is not proven, let Pakistan file a defamation case against Root in the courts of the country where the test is being played. Root will have nowhere to run.

This accusation by a English players is a challenge to the ICC.
ICC must appoint a committee of three former test cricketers each one from WI, SA and SL to investigate the accusation and give there judgement. If the accusation turns out to be false than the English player should be banned from playing cricket for life.

I think if any player has any doubt or has any evidence they should contact match officials rather than coming in public with such accusation. Pakistan team management needs to be very tough in asking appropriate punishment to such players for bringing disrepute to the game and also wrongly accusing a fellow player.

Cricket is no longer a sport now because of plenty of factors such as big money, prestige etc. As such every team is indulging in some sort of dirty tricks or the other either through fielders, umpires or bowlers or all combined.
Every fast bowler in the world, who indulges in the reverse swing is a cheater. So the reverse swing should be banned by ICC. Otherwise such blame games always continue.

Looks like Root wanted to say that by kicking the ball you can get a thread off, which could be the difference between 0-0 and 0-1.
He is right. This does not mean that Wahab kicked to do just that, but Afridi is one of the most honest players and he tampered with the pitch in front of the whole world and accepted the guilt. In game, it can happen with the spur of a moment.
