BAHAWALPUR: The Cantonment police on Sunday arrested a cleric for allegedly raping an 11-year-old seminary student.

Police said the suspect from Rahim Yar Khan had brought along with him his relative boy for teaching at Madressah Rashadia in Model Town-A here around three months back.

He would allegedly sexually assault the boy and didn’t allow him to go to his house for the last one month. On Sunday, his parents visited the house of the suspect in his absence, recovered the boy and approached the police.

On the complaint of the parents, a police team conducted a raid and arrested the suspect who confessed to his crime.

A case has been registered.
