ABBOTTABAD: Doctors and paramedical staff of Ayub Medical Complex Hospital on Friday observed a strike against the manhandling and thrashing of a doctor and a nurse by the relatives of a dengue patient who died in the hospital on the night between Thursday and Friday.

The hospital staff locked the OPD while no operation was conducted in the main operation theater and the emergency operation theaters. Israr Ahmed, who was suffering from dengue fever and cancer, died in the hospital late on Thursday night.

His relatives and attendants became violent and smashed the windows and other electronic appliances including computers. They also beat the staff nurse and duty officer who were both injured. The doctors and paramedics took out a rally and blocked Karakorum Highway to protest against the patient’s relatives.

They set a two-day deadline to the health department to remove the hospital director and medical director for their poor security arrangements at the hospital. They also demanded the arrest of culprits and registration of FIR against the patient’s relatives.
