THE news report (Oct 7) that only 131,811 persons had filed their income tax returns by Oct 5 is very frustrating for honest and compliant tax filers.
The only way this abysmal situation can be improved is: 1) giving a nominal tax credit for those persons who file their tax returns by the due date; 2)imposing all the penalties allowed by the law on late filers and non-filers; and 3) making the relevant persons in the FBR accountable for their failure in ensuring effective enforcement.

It is to be noted that the IRIS system enforced for filing the return in not very user friendly. in my case i have been trying hard to get through the submission process. the pral help email never responds. after a lot of trials and errors i did reach a point where the form was submitted but only when i had declared previous year income / balance as zero - adding in the details of previous years does not balance the "un reconciled amount" section of the assets statement form. being salaried, the option of uploading the "at source deduction certificate" should be made available and in case no other source of income exists, the salary only class should be exempted from filling the many forms.

The last date for filing of returns should be extended up to 31-10-2015.
