KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) president Iqbal Ashraf disclosed on Sunday that plans were afoot to form the bank’s women cricket team in an initiative that will promote the sport.
Speaking at a dinner reception hosted in honour of Bangladesh and Pakistan women teams by NBP’s CSR Division here at the Southend Club, Iqbal thanked the visiting team for touring the country.
“Necessary directives have been issued to the NBP Sports Department to form its women team for national events,” he said.
NBP chairman Munir Kamal, meanwhile, lauded Bangladesh for visiting Pakistan and praised their rising status in sports.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, also present on the occasion, said: “The visit of Bangladesh women’s team is a stepping stone in resumption of international sporting activities in Pakistan.”
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Bari, former Test cricketers Iqbal Qasim, Salahuddin Ahmed, former Bangladesh international Athar Ali Khan and KCCA President Ejaz Faruqi amongst others also attended the reception.
