ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan directed the Federal Investigation Agency on Monday to investigate, in collaboration with the National Accountability Bureau, a media report that a legitimate owner had been deprived of his property in Saddar area of Karachi thorough forged documents.

According to the report, two lawyers deprived Irfan Ahmad of his property by preparing forged documents. “No-one can be allowed to deprive anyone of his property using threats or forgery,” a press release issued by the ministry of interior quoted Chaudhry Nisar as saying.

The minister ordered the FIA to ensure provision of justice to the affected person and to provide him with all possible legal assistance.

He also directed the FIA to work closely with NAB and to broaden the scope of ongoing campaign against land-grabbers and take strict action against such elements.

The interior minister also took notice of another report that a candidate for local bodies’ elections belonging to Kot Momin in Punjab had been declared as deceased in the record of the National Database and Registration Authority and called for a report from Nadra chairman.

According to a spokesman for the ministry, the wife of Mohammad Saleem had obtained the death certificate of her husband from the union council concerned in 2011.

Nadra sent the updated list of voters to the Election Commission of Pakistan for verification. The list was displayed inviting objections from people. Since no objection was received, the list was considered as final and was issued by Nadra.

According to the Nadra record, the wife of Mohammad Saleem had also obtained her CNIC showing her marital status as widow.

Chaudhry Nisar has asked the Punjab government to proceed against officials of the union council and those who were involved in forgery and fraud.

He observed that it was inappropriate to blame Nadra for fraud committed by an individual with the connivance of union council officials.
