RAWALPINDI: A couple sustained critical burn injuries in their house in the Muslim Town locality of Sadiqabad on Sunday, police said.

Iffat Muneeb and her husband Muneeb Ahmed, in their 30s, were taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital by Rescue 1122. Later, they were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

When the police investigating officer was contacted, he said the couple was unable to record their statement with the police.

“The cause of the fire can only be known when the relatives of the injured come to the police station. However, so far none of the family members has approached the police,” he added.

Meanwhile, a robber took away his injured accomplice in the Westridge area on Sunday.

Adnan Bashir, a resident of Westridge Lane 5, was going to a nearby market when two motorcycle riders snatched his mobile phone and tried to escape. However, Mr Bashir caught one of the robbers. In the meantime, the other robber opened fire on Mr Bashir but the bullet hit his own accomplice.

Before anyone could come to the rescue of the robbery victim, the robber opened fire into the air and put his injured accomplice on his motorcycle and sped off.

When contacted, Raja Nadeem Zafar, the SHO of Westridge, said the police were checking all private clinics to trace the injured robber.
