PESHAWAR: Participants of a training workshop have urged the owners of media outlets to provide reasonable wages to their workers and ensure their protection so that they could perform duties in a befitting manner.

The workshop titled ‘respectful profession’ was arranged by Pakistan Workers Federation here on Saturday. A number of journalists and workers of the federation participated and shared views about the working conditions and wages both for the journalists and other labourers.

On this occasion, Pakistan Workers Federation provincial president Razim Khan and Khyber Union of Journalists member of executive council Jamil Khan highlighted the problems being faced by mediapersons and other workers. Referring to the fight against terrorism, they said that journalists were facing serious problems while performing field duties, especially those associated with electronic media.

Mr Jamil said that appointment letters were not even given to the employees in some outlets. Razim Khan said that after the approval of 18th amendment the problems of industrial workers had multiplied. He said that industrial units had been closed due to lack of facilities, energy shortage, etc.

The participants agreed to take unified steps for their welfare of all workers.
