TIMERGARA: A tehsil councillor belonging to the Qaumi Watan Party, Mohammad Umar, was gunned down by masked motorcyclists outside his house at Kotigram area in the jurisdiction of Ouch police station of Lower Dir on Sunday.
Mr Umar, who was also a former tehsil nazim, was standing near his house when two motorcyclists wearing masks approached and opened indiscriminate fire on him. He died instantly. The two soon fled from the scene.
The Ouch police registered a case against three suspects, including Shah Room and his nephews Tajdar and Shahab of Ouch, on the complaint of Hazrat Umar, brother of Mohammad Umar. The victim is said to have an old enmity with the accused family and he had been acquitted by a Timergara court in a murder case last year.
Meanwhile, a taxi driver was killed and two other persons were injured when their car hit a roadside tree at Kat Gala Talash here on Sunday.
Sources said the driver, Mansoor, 20, a resident of Barorai Adenzai, lost control on the car due to speeding and hit a tree. As a result, he was killed on the spot while the two other persons were injured.
The car was part of a wedding party coming from Talash to Barorai, Chakdara. Talash police have registered the case.
