I travel all over the world as it is in my job description and I see people world over have immense respect for Indians and think of us as very intelligent people but I have also seen sourness as they think we will steal their jobs , but I assure them that Indian companies create more jobs in their countries than that is outsourced(bangalored) to India.

This is Indian subcontinent with all cultures, religions and colors. We have lot of problem to tackle but we all together will face all problems and find solutions for them one by one. We want peace because the philosophy of "Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam" (World is our home) are ingrained in our blood, flesh and mind. I, the citizen of India, appeal to all people of world that we want peace and we never ever destroy it for our gain.

The title says "India's 68th birthday celebrations," just wondering, isn't the term "birthday" incorrect strictly speaking? While Pakistan was born on 14th August, India was already there. But feels great to see the photos. Great work ! Thanks to all Pakistanis for the good wishes.

@original realist I highly doubt that. Because of the Pakistan bias (that is of course understandable) such an edition would be well received only by those who can think objectively and rationally while taking "news" on Kashmir with a pinch of salt; and since there is an acute shortage of such people on both sides (or rather they aren't in the right places, viz. the corridors of power) I am highly skeptical of the commercial success of such an edition. Your sentiments are well appreciated though.

If a steady gallop can be maintained,as like an economic growth of 8-10% for the next 30 or 35 years, lots and lots of poverty will vanish not only from India but in the surrounding countries as well,as and when they integrate with the mammoth Indian economy? Time for you to think different,huh? Anyway,celebrate the Independence and what can be done to usefully use it?:)

But the First Year post Independence is one of immence sorrow and tragedy - marked with the massive bloodshed and massacres along the Lines of Partion that accompanied the most immence human migrations in the History of Mankind; the Great Tradegy being the Assasination of Mahatma Gandhi - the Epitome of Non-violence and the 'The Father of the Indian Nation'. We are two people from the sub continent, I believe in the two nation theory, Pakistan was created for Muslims, I am proud of Muslims who chose to remain in India, I would want the Muslims in India to know that, you are our Muslims, under the Indian constitution, you have equal rights as any one, under or secular system, you can worship whom ever you want, you can practice your religion, some of our top rated film stars, SRK, Salman and Saif are Indians first, they are loved by millions, my favourite actor is SRK, I have watched his films, I hope SRK will continue to deliver films, which are enjoyed by the old, young and children. Our missile man was our beloved Dr. Abdul Kalam. As a Indian I want to convey my good wishes to Pakistan on the occasion of their Independence day Aug 14. I am a foodie, I would love to come to Lahore and enjoy the Lahori food. GOOD LUCK

@Asma Jahangir 68 years ago,India got the FREEDOM to decide best for itself. Yes,whatever you say is true...lots of unfinished things in India. That will be FOREVER for there is always something left to be done? What we are celebrating is the freedom to do things we choose to do and the results that are trickling in-space exploration victories, India becoming the fastest growing major economy in the world,having a PM who loves living like a mendicant or a monk but chooses to act like a CEO,stable institutions,and above all,the UPBEAT mood in India?:) Sure you are able to see the things I do?

Have you ever heard Modi's speech? It is always directed to 125 crore Indians NEVER to Hindus alone. Same thing is true about his policies. In any case Indisns view Red Fort as an Indian monument, not a Muslim Monument.

Please note it is not india's Birthday but Independence Day. India is one of world oldest civilization

@Asma Jahangir - There is wide spread hope in India, that things will be better tomorrow than today.. A country which is the Fastest Growing major Economy in the World, ahead of China has lot to offer for young people. When country grows like that everyone has a fair chance to grow. Ofcourse, it all depends on how much effort the individual is ready to put in. India which is building highways at the rate of 15 km/day and increasing it to 30 km/day is on a fast track.. Hope is what keeps people going..

@Asma Jahangir. Dear Asma what you write is applicable to Pakistan also. We share exactly the same problems, our first is that we think we are somehow better than India. We as individuals, and as a nation have to first to accept our own faults, our own mistakes, our own crimes, our own apathy towards our own people, our own perception of the other. We have to get over this fallacy of trying to find faults in others. Are we really perfect, am I perfect? Most certainly not, are you perfect, perhaps not, then why cannot we simply accept our faults. Let the Indians bother about their own affairs.

South Africa is referred to as the "Rainbow" Country but India as the above brilliant photographs show is a country of many rainbows!! it is good to see people enjoying themselves, may the people of the Sub-Continent be blessed with happiness and joy, may they come closer to each other, may they help each other in times of need, may they have a better future. May good sense overcome obstinacy may our collective strengths over come over weaknesses, this would be my prayer for Pakistan's good neighbor.

Thank you Dawn for doing this article on India's Independence. This is a proof that Dawn is an impartial paper. It also proves that people of Pakistan are willing to share the happy and sad occasions with the people of India. We are all the same.MY only wish is too see India and Pakistan become like two sisters who will always be together no matter what the circumstances.
