LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday strict action would be taken on irregularities in the construction of extension project of District Headquarters Hospital of Layyah, and non-posting of medical staff and non-installation of machinery on time.

He said this at a meeting in which the report of Chief Minister’s Inspection Team regarding the Layyah hospital was presented, says a handout.

He said the people responsible for irregularities from tendering of the construction of building to the purchase of machinery would be held accountable. The chief minister said the building was constructed with millions of rupees but neither the staff was posted nor the machinery was installed. Had there been a regular system of monitoring, the situation would not have risen to such extent, he added. What is the justification of the machinery lying packed in cartons, he asked the officials.

He said that the departments had been writing letters to each other but did nothing practically. He said that the forensic analysis of the project would be conducted. Had the officials of Health Department been paying visits to the districts, the real situation would have been known to them, he added. He said those wasting the resources of the people had no right to be on their posts. He said the Layyah hospital case would be made a test case and the people responsible for the negligence would be sent to jail.

He also strongly reprimanded the district coordination officer and the executive district officer (health) of the district for their “unsatisfactory reply”. He directed to constitute a high level committee to see in detail every aspect in the light of recommendations of Chief Minister’s Inspection Team and fix the responsibility.
