MULTAN: Two teenagers died while six others were injured in separate roof and wall collapse incident here on Friday.

According to Rescue 1122 sources, the incidents occurred due to the recent rains.

The roof of a three-storey building caved in inside Lohari Gate that buried Gulshan Bibi, 18, and her brother Kamran, 15, under the debris. Kamran died on the spot while Gulshan was shifted to Nishtar Hospital in a critical condition where the doctors treated her, but she could not survive.

Another building collapsed in Lohari Gate in which Rasheeda Bibi and her 26-year-old son Muhamad Yousaf were injured and shifted to hospital by rescue staff.

A hut collapsed near Dera Adda Chowk injuring Ismail, Islam and his son Kamran. Ten-year-old Shoaib was injured when the roof of a petrol pump on Vehari Road collapsed. He was shifted to Nishtar Hospital by Rescue 1122 staff.

Taking notice of the collapsed buildings in the Walled City, the district administration decided to shift those living in the buildings declared dangerous to safer places.

According to an official handout, over 1,000 families would be shifted to Haj Complex, Vilayat Hussain College and other school buildings.

District Coordination Officer Zahid Saleem Gondal said after declaring buildings dangerous the district administration issued final notices to their residents for evacuation.

“But due to uncooperative attitude of the people and stay orders from courts, the administration is facing hardships in getting the buildings vacated,” he claimed.
