LAHORE: Renowned boxer Amir Khan says Pakistan is rich in boxing talent which can be groomed under a long-term plan.

“I can see a lot of talented boxers in Pakistan; they have the necessary potential to gain international prominence if modern facilities are provided to them to polish their skills,” Great Britain’s Amir said while talking to media after arriving here on a brief visit along with his wife and daughter.

Amir, who is a professional boxer and World Boxing Council silver welterweight champion, said he would meet Pakistani pugilists to share his experience and to impart them finer points of the sport.

“I have brought my wife and daughter to Pakistan for the very first time and they are really happy to be here,” he said.

Amir was optimistic to have a fight with unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr in the near future. “I think, perhaps, he does not want to face me in the ring,” said Amir. “May be he [Mayweather] knows it is going to be a tough fight and maybe I beat him.”

Earlier, Amir upon his arrival in the provincial capital went to the shrine of Data Darbar and offered Fateha.
