Act first, report later during flood relief efforts: COAS

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has directed all concerned authorities to continue rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas of the country 'leaving no stone unturned', according to a series of tweets by Director General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa.
General Raheel Sharif also announced that Pakistan Army will donate a day's ration to the flood-hit people.

He reviewed the army’s relief efforts in flood-affected areas and directed all those involved in the relief activities to act first and report later.

Earlier, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif had directed all field commanders of the Pakistan Army to extend all possible assistance to people in areas affected by floods.
Pakistan Army has continued its rescue and relief operations in Chitral district and other flood-hit areas of the country.
More than a hundred villages have been affected by floods in various districts of Punjab whereas 200 villages along the River Indus have been evacuated.

any countries army chief is nothing more than a govt servant like bank chief,insurance chief,railways chief etc.these guys should do thier job and not try to surpass thier boundaries.people elected govt is authorised to look after any country and army chief should be on the orders of pm and pm is the boss.army or army chief is just another organisation like banks,railways,airways etc and army chief is just another govt servant.for flood relief and other decisions,govt knows what need to be done as they are elected for that.

The Army and the chief are doing a great job. It feels like the Army is letting us know the work its doing because it's trying to gain political support for its next operation the elimination of economic terrorism.

I wish he were our prime minister, how progressive of a country we would be. These politicians lie to people everytime for power and deceive them everytime too which is a given but the people too fall into their traps everytime. Gen. Raheel, you are nothing short of a national hero for us.

@manav The point you are making is relative, in a perfect world or ideal democracy such is the case. I am an american where the departments are functional and can make decisions without interference.
Unfortunately this is not the case in Pakistan, majority of departments are incompetent, corrupt and virtually non functional. Its the job of Nawaz Shariff to hold emergency meetings, go to site and then direct each authority plus issue funds. He will never do it, he cant even speak coherently, lacks vision. I dont understand how he is sitting as a PM and his cabinet is no different.
Until proper reforms are made, this is how the country will run.

So basically, our shameless and benign politicians are fighting each other and looking to snare the next million dollar by whatever means while our hero general seems to be running the country. Time to sit back and introspect the reality. How come when the soldiers come to power, we moan how the civilians were kicked out so unfairly.

On the other hand, the other day I saw a publicity picture of Mr Sharif, with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes, handing out a small package to a flood affected poor fellow. That tells it all.
