KARACHI: Following the decision taken on Thursday by the Sindh Education Department to extend summer vacation in the province till Aug 11, several private school associations have shared their unhappiness over the matter.

In view of the heavy rains and flooding, Education Secretary Fazlullah Pechuho had sent a proposal to Chief Secretary Siddique Memon to extend the holidays in all government and private schools till Aug 11 instead of Aug 3, which was the earlier plan, due to the monsoon situation in most parts of Sindh.

But it is being debated now that Karachi has not been affected by the rains, therefore, schools here should not be closed. “Extension in summer vacation in urban areas of Sindh such as Karachi must not be considered by the government as there is no emergency called due to any rain or flooding here,” said chairman of the Private School Management Association Sharaf-uz-Zaman.

“Additional vacation would hurt the academic session of students,” he added.
