SAHIWAL: Police registered a murder case against Chak Badian (Pakpattan) Station House Officer (SHO) Shahid Nazir and 13 others for allegedly killing Muhammad Imran through torturing and consuming him poison in the lock-up.
Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Shahnawaz Sandhila ordered the case after a preliminary postmortem report.
On July 25, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ashiq Ali picked Imran Wattoo, of Sikandar Chowk, in a firing and scuffle case and seized a 30-bore pistol and a gun from him.
Imran’s elder brother Muhammad Ramzan alleged the ASI took bribe from the rival party and gave poisonous food to his brother.
On July 27, Imran complained of breathing problem. Police took him to the Bunga Hayat Basic Health Unit to be referred first to the Pakpattan District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital and then to Sahiwal DHQ Hospital where died.
On Tuesday, the family placed the body in front of the DPO office and demand a murder case against the SHO and others.
The DPO ordered postmortem of the body and the registration of a murder case. The DPO told Dawn the postmortem report would resolve the matter. He assured the family of the deceased that the case would be thoroughly probed. No arrest was made in the case.
