PESHAWAR: One of the two police officers — DIG Mubarak Zeb Khan and Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Bannu Mohammad Tahir Khan — will replace Capital City Police Officer Ijaz Ahmed, who is likely to relinquish charge of his post on July 31, according to sources.

A senior police official told Dawn that CCPO Ijaz Ahmed, who had been leading Peshawar police since late 2013, would call it a day on July 31 and would be heading out for a foreign course.

Though a farewell party was held on Tuesday in his honour, yet officials said that there was still a possibility that he might put it off at the eleventh hour.

A senior official at Central Police Office said that replacement of city police chief was yet to be finalised.

He said that the names of DIG (headquarters) Mubarak Zeb Khan and Bannu RPO Mohammad Tahir Khan were under-consideration for the post.

However, the official said that nothing was final at this stage.

The official, requesting anonymity, said that Mubarak Zeb Khan had better chances of being selected as new chief of Peshawar police, though Tahir too was a competent and professional officer.

He said that Tahir was doing really good in Bannu as RPO and still had to complete his tenure.

The official said that Mubrak Zeb had already completed two years as DIG headquarters and was involved in the police reforms, undertaken in the province.

Hailing from Upper Dir, Mubarak Zeb belongs to 27th Common Training Programme (CTP) of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP).

He joined police service in 2000.

He was transferred to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Punjab in 2006.

Mohammad Tahir Khan, a resident of Charsadda, belongs to 26th CTP of PSP and joined police service in 1999.
