KARACHI: Various cities and towns of Sindh, including the metropolis, received intermittent rains on Sunday. The Met Office forecast more rains across the province on Monday.

The city weatherman said that maximum amount of rainfall — 24 millimetres — was recorded in Islamkot, while Gulshan-i-Hadeed in Karachi received 21mm rain.

The vehicular traffic on roads in the city was thin due to the weekly holiday and the intermittent rain as well.

Rainwater drained out on major arteries and thoroughfares, but it accumulated in the city’s low-lying areas as well as streets and some roads.

Rainwater also accumulated in Saddar, M A Jinnah Road, Sharea Faisal near airport, Korangi Road, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, Burnes Road, Soldiers Bazaar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Preedy Street, University Road, etc.

The met official said that rainfall recorded in Karachi University was 7mm, PAF Base Faisal 6mm; North Karachi 4mm; Old City Area 3.6mm; and PAF Base Masroor 2mm.

He said that the maximum and minimum temperature in the city on Sunday was 31 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius with humidity — the measure of the amount of moisture in the atmosphere — was 96 per cent.

He expected that the weather in the city on Monday would be cloudy/ thundershowers with moderate to heavy rain.

The maximum temperature on Monday would range between 31-33 degrees Celsius.

Regarding the rain situation in the other parts of the province, he said that Nagarparkar received 17mm, Chachro 1mm, and Mithi received 4mm of rainfall.

He said that the met department also issued a weather advisory that widespread rains/thundershowers with moderate to heavy rainfalls were expected in Sindh — Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur divisions.

It said that heavy rainfalls could generate “urban flooding” in Karachi, Hyderabad, and other towns in the next 24 hours.

Owing to heavy rains in Sindh the sea conditions were likely to remain rough to very rough along the Sindh-Makran coast from Sunday to Tuesday and the met office advised the fishermen to remain careful during that period.
