GUJRANWALA: A youth allegedly attempted to rape a nine-year-old girl in Gujranwala and later tried to burn her alive, DawnNews reported Wednesday night.

Suspect Jameel Khan allegedly assaulted the nine-year-old daughter of a labourer living in the jurisdiction of Wahindu police station in Gujranwala district.

The victim was also reportedly set on fire by the suspect. She was shifted to Civil Hospital in critical condition where she was given medical treatment. According to doctors, around 30 per cent of her body has been burnt.

According to the victim’s mother, her daughter was on her way back from her grandmother’s house when the alleged suspect kidnapped her and later attempted to sexually assault her.

Police has begun its investigation into the incident. According to police, the suspect's daughter had quarrelled with the victim a few days ago which had angered him – a possible motive for the attack.
