ISLAMABAD: Two people lost their lives in separate incidents on Monday. A man was murdered in the capital’s rural areas on Monday and a teenager drowned in a nullah.

In the first incident, a man named Sardar Zulfikar came to the Doray village with a dog and some villagers began asking him who he was and why he had a dog. Then two men arrived at the spot on a motorbike and began firing at Zulfikar and after making sure he was dead, fled the scene.

A police officer told Dawn that it is possible that the murderers assumed that he was a policeman or informer and using the dog to sniff out narcotics dens in the area. The village is notorious for drug peddling and distribution.

“It is yet to be established whether the man was bringing the dog to someone in the village or just passing through the area,” he added.

In another incident, a teenager drowned in Korang Nullah, in the area of Bhara Kahu.

The incident came to light when some passersby spotted the victim drowning in the water and calling out for help. The police told Dawn that he unfortunately drowned before he could be helped.

Later, the body was taken out of the water and shifted to the hospital for pending identification and legal processing.

Meanwhile, two armed men intercepted a man named Tahir Mehmood in I-10/1 and made off with his cash and mobile phone. Later, the victim with the help of some passersby began chasing the gunman and also called the police.

The police managed to arrest one of the gunmen while the other escaped along with the booty.

In another incident, auto-thieves stole cars from the parking area of Sunday Market in G-6 and another from outside a store in I-11/4. A motorcycle was also stolen from the parking lot of a hospital in Sector H-8.
