GUJRANWALA: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Cantonment on Saturday and inquired after those injured in the Chanawan head train accident.

He went to each patient to inquire after his health and prayed for his early recovery. Later, he met Corps Commander Lt Gen Ghayyur Mehmood and expressed shock over the loss of precious lives of army officers. He said the entire nation was saddened by the loss of lives of army officers.

Station Commander Brig Islam, CMH Commandant Brig Dr Aizaz, minister Khurram Dastagir Khan, home minister Shuja Khanzada and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah were among those present.

According to a handout, at the Corps Headquarters, the chief minister was informed that rescue operation was possible due to joint efforts of the civil administration and the army.

The army officials lauded the timely response of the police, Rescue 1122 and other institutions.


DBA seeks impartial inquiry


Also, the District Bar Association (DBA) observed a day of mourning and its president, Khalid Latif Chaudhry, and other lawyers demanded that an inquiry should be conducted to fix responsibility.

DEATH SENTENCE: Anti-Terrorism Court No1 judge Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmad handed down on Saturday death sentence on two counts with a Rs200,000 fine to a man who burnt his wife to death.

Sakhawat Ali will have to undergo one-year imprisonment in case of default of fine payment.

According to the prosecution, Ali would quarrel with his wife over domestic issues and burnt her alive at Sialkot’s Flora village on April 30, 2014.

ATC No 2 judge Bushra Zaman continued hearing of the murder case of Daska bar president Rana Khalid Abbas and his associate Irfan Chauhan in the Central Jail court room. After hearing of arguments, the judge adjourned the case until July 6.
