LAHORE: Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Friday and discussed matters of mutual interest, promotion of Pak-Afghan relations and the regional situation.

The chief minister told the envoy that admission quota for students from Afghanistan in health and educational institutes of Punjab would be increased.

He said there was a need to further promote cooperation in different sectors between Pakistan and Afghanistan and for maximum contacts between business communities of the two countries.

He also said terrorism and extremism were common enemies of both countries and this menace should be eliminated. He said by defeating terrorists and their facilitators, permanent peace could be ensured in the region.

He further said the present leaderships of both Pakistan and Afghanistan were making serious efforts for establishing peace and improving relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Mosazai said Afghanistan wanted to strengthen its relations with Pakistan, especially Punjab. He thanked the chief minister for increasing the admission quota of Afghan students in educational institutes of Punjab. He also invited Shahbaz to Kabul.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Cuban experts in health led by Cuban Ambassador Jesús Zenén Buergo Concepción also called on the chief minister.

The chief minister lauded the achievement Cuba had made in the public health sector due to hard work and expertise and said the Punjab government wanted to benefit from its expertise. He also said the Punjab government would benefit from the Cuban model within its resources and urged the experts to evolve a durable model for health sector improvement
