ISLAMABAD: On a request from the Wapda Sports Board (WSB), the Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) has lifted ban on Wapda’s women players, imposed for breaching discipline more than two years ago.

Retired Capt Zafar Iqbal Awan, president of the PNF, gave approval to lift the ban on Wapda players.

In a press release issued here, PNF secretary general Mudassar Arain said the PNF — on the request of WSB — lifted the ban on Wapda players including Sherish Nawaz, Robina Kouser, Rizwana Arshad and Khalidi.

The ban on the said players was imposed in February 2013 by the PNF executive committee, after a serious verbal row that turned physical occurred during the 2012 National Women’s Netball Championship semi-final between Wapda and Army in Lahore.

During the semi-final the players (names mentioned above) were involved in fighting besides using harsh language, as the unpleasant incident left several players injured.

The ban lifted will be effective from July 1, allowing the players to feature in national and international competitions.
