GUJRAT: University of Gujrat Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum has suspended Deputy Director (Administration and Coordination) Akhtar Warraich as head of maintenance department over alleged slackness in keeping standby generators functional during consistent power outages.

The VC ordered the issuance of a show-cause notice to the head and other officials of the maintenance section for their failure in rectifying the faults of the power generators that did not work during the outages as a result students lodged a strong protest.

The students prior to the start of Ramazan had demanded of the UoG administration for notifying vacation keeping in view harsh weather, but the vice chancellor and other senior officials had assured them of uninterrupted power supply by using generators installed at the academic blocks during the holy month.

However, the administration had to face an embarrassing situation on Monday when the vice chancellor himself paid a visit to the academic blocks and students apprised him of the non-availability of electricity.
