PESHAWAR: A special anti-corruption court on Tuesday remanded five suspects, including four senior government officials, in the custody of the anti-corruption establishment for two days in a corruption case and ordered their production on July 2.

Among suspects are former local government secretary Aurangzeb Khan, deputy secretary of planning and development department Shakirullah Khan, director of local government department Tahira Yasmin, assistant deputy commissioner serving as Wapda magistrate Samiullah Khan and private contractor Manzoor Ahmad Qureshi.

They face the charge of misappropriation of Rs46 million funds in the purchase of computers for the local government department.

Assistant director (special investigation) of the anti-corruption department Aslam Nawaz Khan told judge Akbar Khan that

He said the custody of the suspects was required for further investigation to the alleged corruption.

The ACE had started probing the matter in 2014.

REMANDED EXTENDED: An Ehtesab judge, Subhan Sher Khan, on Tuesday extended the remand of the Accountant General Office accounts officer Sardar Mohammad in the custody of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission for nine days.

The judge ordered the production of the suspect on July 8.

Additional deputy prosecutor general of the commission Qazi Babar Irshad appeared before the court and said the suspect was arrested on June 8 on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

He said investigation against the suspect were in progress.

Qazi Babar said while some properties of the suspect had been traced, the investigation officer needed further custody of the suspect to know about his some other assets.
