PESHAWAR: The workers of Pakistan Peoples Party, Nowshera, have expressed grave concern over the weakening position of the party which faced a crushing defeat in the May 30 local government elections due to internal rifts.

Mian Bakhtiar Ali Shah, a senior leader of Pabbi whose father Mian Mehboob Shah was a founding member of the party in the province, said that lack of coordination, internal rifts and weak organisational structure were the major reasons for the party’s defeat in the 2013 general elections and May 30 LG elections.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr Shah said that his family had the credit that both Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto had visited their residence. He said that his elders had faced trials during the martial laws, but even then the party leaders were least bothered to given him due status in the party.

“I contested the election for general councillor in the May 30 elections, but the party office-bearers did not extend cooperation to me rather they supported the anti-PPP people in the elections,” he said. He appealed to PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to spare some time for reorganising the party. He also asked them to replace all corrupt elements on different seats in the party.
