MASTUNG: At least 13 people were killed and seven were injured in a road accident on Thursday in Balochistan's Mastung district.

Officials said that a passenger van collided with a truck coming from the opposite side of the road in Mastung's Khad Kucha area.

The injured have been rushed to Quetta for medical treatment, Ismail Ibrahim, Assistant Commissioner Mastung told DawnNews. The passenger van was on its way from Mangochar to Quetta when it collided with a truck.

Ibrahim added that the driver of the passenger van lost the control owing to over-speeding, which resulted in the accident.

Levies personnel reached the spot and started investigation into the incident. According to levies sources, three of the injured passengers are in serious condition.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving. According to police records, more than 60,000 people died in road accidents over the last 11 years.

The figure is based on the cases which were reported to the police.
