ISLAMABAD: Fearing a fresh clash between two student groups, the administration of the Islamabad campus of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology on Monday extended the vacations for four more days.

Following a brawl between two student groups on Tuesday, the university administration had closed the campus till Monday. However, on Monday, the administration decided not to reopen the institution till Thursday.

“We have to extend the vacations because there were chances of clashes between the student groups,” said Prof Salman D. Mohammad, the in-charge of the Islamabad campus. He said the university would reopen on Thursday.

A number of students on Monday reached the university but had to return home after seeing a notice on the university gate.

“I agree due to the closure of the university, the students are suffering but our efforts are underway to make a patch-up between the student groups,” said Ali Zaman, the additional registrar.

“We tried to get in touch with the students through their class representatives but a large number of them could not be contacted,” he said.

It may be noted that the brawl between the Pakhtun Students Federation and the Seraiki Students Federation left almost a dozen of students injured.
