GUJRANWALA: A ruling party Punjab Assembly member Chaudhry Iqbal Gujjar survived an attempt on his life when some unidentified people opened fire on his vehicle late on Sunday.

According to police sources, the vehicle of PML-N MPA from the Punjab Assembly constituency, PP-98, was ambushed near his house.

The MPA remained unhurt, while his vehicle was damaged in the firing by unidentified assailants who fled the scene immediately.

Police on being informed of the attack arrived at the spot and collected evidence.

A case had been registered against unidentified attackers.

In a similar attack a fortnight ago, a PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad Ahmad, his son Shahbaz Ahmad and his friend Mehmood Shakir were gunned down at Raja Bhullavi village in the district. Two other people were injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, according to a handout, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the firing on Chaudhry Iqbal Gujjar and sought a report from inspector general of police.

The chief minister has directed the police to immediately arrest the culprits involved in the attack and take action under the law.
