MUZAFFARGARH: The city police registered a case on Friday against three female teachers for getting educator jobs on fake documents, under sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

District Education Officer (DEO) Aqeedat Soomro said the education department had announced educators vacancies of different categories in January this year. He said forms and applications submitted by applicants were scrutinised by a special team made by the district coordination officer (DCO) and the executive district officer (EDO). Later letters of appointment were issued to successful applicants.

He said when the verification of documents started and they contacted candidates to receive their letters, the documents of Khalida Batool, Firdous Kausar and Sumaira Fakhar were found bogus.

He said the department requested the DCO to get cases registered against the accused. Earlier, the city police had booked three male teachers for bogus documents.

Talking to Dawn, DCO Hafiz Shaukat Ali said he had managed a special team to recheck the credentials of successful candidates and it emerged more than one dozen teachers were recruited on bogus documents. He said some accused teachers tried to influence him through their connections in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat but he went ahead with the action.

An accused said she had given Rs 200,000 to an agent for MA Physical Education degree and the job letter. She said some education department employers were involved in the issue.

EDO-Education Shamshir Sial told Dawn that some officials of his office were involved in the scam.

City Station House Officer Mehr Abdul Qayyum said the district police officer had asked him to arrest fake degree holders soon.

District Education Officer Aqeedat Soomro said since the inquiry had been started, they had received one dozen resignations from educators. He said he was doing inquiry into all appointments and would submit a report with three days.
