ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Barrister Usman Ibrahim on Thursday said the division’s vehicles were being used by a number of non-entitled officials.
He directed all the non-entitled officials to return the official vehicles within seven working days otherwise action would be initiated against them.
Though in his press statement the minister didn’t divulge the names of the unauthorised officials and the number of vehicles, a senior official at CADD told Dawn that about 10 vehicles were being used by non-entitled officials.
“The minister has warned of stern action against the violators saying austerity must be observed under all circumstances as per the instructions of the prime minister,” the statement said.
The minister said the unauthorised use of official vehicles was putting an extra burden on the government in terms of fuel consumption etc.
“I can’t comment further on the development. I was directed by the minister to issue a press statement,” said Irfan Haider, the public relations officer for CADD. Despite repeated attempts, CADD’s official spokesman Qaisar Majid Malik could not be approached.
