Huge wins for Wapda, Punjab Colour

LAHORE: Wapda and Punjab Colour registered huge wins in the third All-Pakistan Fatima Jinnah Women’s Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the District Sports Ground in Multan on Wednesday.

Wapda outclassed Sindh 8-0 and Punjab Colour thrashed Islamabad 10-0 in one-sided matches.

A hat-trick each by Ambreen and Azra Nasib guided Wapda to a comfortable victory. Ambreen struck goals in the 16th, 22nd and 28th minutes while Azra scored in 29th, 43rd and 46th. Maria (third) and Sobia (49th) scored field goals.

Looking exhausted, Sindh girls offered little resistance in the last three quarters against their star-studded rivals.

Mehren and Zaibunisa made the only move of the match from Sindh in the 45th minute and earned a penalty corner as well but failed to reduce the defeat margin.

Meanwhile, a hat-trick by Shaneel and a brace from Marina helped Punjab Colour to an easy win over Islamabad.

The girls from the capital city failed to offer any resistance. After Shakira scored the first goal in the fourth minute, Shaneel took possession of the ball and found the net in the 11th, 20th and 33rd minutes. Marina scored in 14th and 59th. respectively. Gulnar (13th), Saira (26th), Mobeena (37th) and Sobia (49th) scored one goal each.

The tournament is being organised by the Pakistan Hockey Federation in collaboration with the Umeed-i-Jawan Progressive Organisation.
