DERA GHAZI KHAN: Three coaches of Peshawar-bound Khushhal Express reportedly derailed in the precincts of Umer Kot police station, Rajanpur district, on Tuesday.

No casualty was reported.

According to reports reaching here, soon after the derailment a large number of locals rushed to the spot to rescue the passengers.

Rajanpur District Police Officer Zahid Gondal who was present on the scene told Dawn by telephone that one coach of the train overturned while two others partially derailed.

He said some passengers sustained minor injuries and were provided treatment immediately, adding they had been sent to Rajanpur railway station for temporary stay till the track’s restoration.

The DPO, rejecting the possibility of sabotage bid, said the derailment seemed to have been caused by some technical fault in the locomotive.

Divisional Superintendent Shah Rukh Khan told Dawn that it was too early to ascertain the cause of derailment and an inquiry would be held into the incident to know it.
