QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that his government would take strict action against a group or party which had armed wings.

Talking to delegations of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) and Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) which called on him separately here on Tuesday, he said the government would fulfil its responsibility to protect life and property of the masses.

“The government will not remain silent over killings of innocent people in Quetta and the elements involved in playing with human lives and destroying peace and order will not be spared,” he said.

He expressed dismay over the murder of four people the other day in Quetta and said an action had been launched against those responsible for it.

“The government will not allow anyone to challenge the writ of the government,” Dr Baloch said, adding that such elements would be brought to justice without discrimination.

He underlined the need for making joint efforts for creating harmony among all sects and said political and religious parties had to play a positive role in this regard. “No-one will be allowed to publish hate literature and delivering speeches against any sect,” he said.

The chief minister said the law and order situation had improved to a great extent, but the incidents took place over the past two days had jolted peace-loving residents of the provincial capital.

He appealed to the leaders of both delegations to cooperate with his government in restoring peace and order in Quetta.

The leaders praised the government for making efforts to restore peace and assured to fully cooperate with it.

Speaking at a function at the Government Girls High School, the chief minister said the menaces of poverty and backwardness could be addressed through education.

He said the province needed the most education than any other thing at this juncture.

The education revolution would not come to the country if teachers and rulers did not take this as a mission. “Teachers can prepare children and society to face challenges of the 21st century,” he said.

Dr Baloch said the world was going through huge changes and education only could bring prosperity in Balochistan.
