PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Friday decided to constitute a ‘jirga council’ of North Waziristan Agency for keeping liaison with the relevant officials to resolve the problems of internally displaced persons settled in Bannu.

The decision was taken by inspector general of police Nasir Khan Durrani after listening to the demands of a delegation of Bannu IDPs from North Waziristan Agency, which called on the IGP at the central police office here.

According to a statement, members of the delegation informed the IGP that during the police’s verification, they faced difficulties and therefore, steps should be taken for end to their misery.

Durrani told visitors that tribal IDPs were guests in the province and that the local police were aware of their problems. He directed the Bannu regional police officer to form a ‘jirga council’ of each seven members from Dawar and Wazir tribes, which will be present with the police during IDPs’ verification.

The IGP said the step would not only facilitate verification process but also help identify suspected elements.
