HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit comprising Justices Munib Akhtar and Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro on Thursday expressed satisfaction over the ongoing relief work in the drought-hit Tharparkar areas while disposing of several petitions alleging malpractices and irregularities in the process.

The bench observed that the objections raised by the petitioners’ counsel did not carry weight.

The court expressed its satisfaction over the final consolidated report of District and Sessions Judge Syed Inamur Rehman which was submitted in compliance with the SHC’s May 12 order. The judges perused the report before dictating the order.

Additional Advocate General Allah Bachayo Soomro contended that the petitions were politically motivated to malign the government.

During the day’s proceedings, the bench admonished Tharparkar deputy commissioner at Mithi Asif Jamil for interrupting a judge. The DC was later given a patient hearing.

Justice Akhtar ordered arrest of Meer Mohammad, a respondent depot keeper in one petition who was present in the court, when the deputy commissioner infor­m­ed the bench that he was creating hurdles in relief distribution in one case and was insisting that he would appear in court.

Meer Mohammad was let off subject to submission of personal bond of Rs50,000.
