QUETTA: The National Party, the main partner in the coalition government of Balochistan, has expressed concern over an operation allegedly conducted by federal institutions in Kalat and other areas and said such actions would harm efforts being made for peace.

NP’s spokesman claimed on Tuesday night that at a time when the centre and Balochistan government were both trying to tackle Balochistan’s issue the action taken by federal institutions would neutralise their effort.

He said if those arrested during the operation were involved in unlawful acts they should have been produced before a court of law and extra-constitutional methods should have been avoided.

The spokesman said the NP from day one had been demanding that the issue of Balochistan was political and should be resolved “politically”, adding that peaceful environment and people’s confidence were necessary for negotiation to succeed.

He said actions such as the one taken in Kalat could breach people’s trust on one hand and on the other affect the efforts of federal and provincial governments trying to find a political solution of the issue.
