KARACHI: Former jail superintendent of Hyderabad police Aijaz Haider was killed Friday when gunmen opened fire on his car near Karachi's Pehlwan Goth area.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police East, unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle near Pehlwan Goth jurisdiction of PS Shahrah-i-Faisal. Subsequently, he was killed whereas his wife sustained injuries in the attack and shifted to nearby hospital Dar us Sehat.

PM Nawaz condemns SSP Aijaz Haider's killing

Prime Minister Nawaz strongly condemned the murder of SSP Ejaz Haider in the firing incident. He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and directed law enforcement agencies to beef up security in the provincial capital.

He said the ongoing operation in Karachi against militants and criminals would continue with full force till their complete elimination. He said the perpetrators of this heinous crime should be arrested at the earliest and brought to justice.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.
