PESHAWAR: Two suicide attackers were killed, while three people sustained injuries when an exchange of fire was followed by a suicide blast outside a high-school football ground in Alizai area of Lower Kurram Agency, DawnNews reported.

According to details, two suicide attackers tried to enter the Alizai High School premises— where a football match was being played— when they were intercepted by security officials, after which, an exchange of fire took place between the two sides.

Earlier there were reports that one attacker was shot dead by security officials, while the other had managed to blow himself up.

However, Political Agent of Kurram Agency Amjad Ali Khan later said that both the suicide bombers were killed in the retaliatory fire by security officials.

At the time of the attack, there were more than 100 people present at the school ground.

Panic struck the blast site soon after, while a state of emergency was declared at hospitals in Kurram Agency.

Following the incident, a large contingent of security forces reached the site and cordoned off the area.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Lower Kurram Agency. The premier said entire nation is united against terrorism and such attacks cannot weaken our resolve against it.

He said the drive against terrorism and militancy would continue till the complete elimination of terrorists and their abettors. Nawaz asked the law enforcement agencies to beef up security to avoid recurrence of such instances in future.
