GUJRAT: As many as 16 candidates belonging to different political parties as well as independents filed their nomination papers for NA-108, Mandi Bahauddin, by-election.

The seat was vacated due to disqualification of PTI MNA Ejaz Chaudhry over fake degree and concealment of assets.

The by-poll is scheduled to be held on June 8 as Tuesday was the last date for the submission of the nomination papers in the office of Returning Officer Masroor Bajjar.

Former MNA Mumtaz Ahmed Tarrar of PML-N, ex-MNA Tariq Tarrar Raika of PTI, former MPA Asif Bashir Bhagat of PPP, Hamza Nasir Iqbal of PML-Q, Riaz Farooq Sahi of JI, Azam Gujjar of PAT and Ghulam Hussain Bosal, a former tehsil nazim, have submitted their papers.

Mandi Bahauddin’s ex-tehsil nazim Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Chaudhry, the elder brother of disqualified MNA Ejaz Chaudhry, who was denied the PTI ticket, has also filed nomination papers whereas former JI district (Mandi Bahauddin) emir Zaigham Mugheera filed his papers as covering candidate for Riaz Farooq Sahi. Ghulam Ali Sahi, Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Nosherwan Umar, Iftikharul Hassan, Ahmed Saifullah Mangat and Muhammad Nawaz were also among those who submitted their nomination papers on the last day.
