RAWALPINDI: A four-year-old boy was kidnapped during a house robbery at the Asghar Mall Scheme on Saturday.
Police said five armed men broke into the house of Jawad Naseem and made the seven-member family hostage. After searching the house, the robbers failed to get any cash or valuables and kidnapped the four-year-old son of the house owner.
Police investigating officer Nazir Baig told Dawn that the robbers asked the family to hand them cash, gold jewellery and other valuables. But the inmates of the house informed them that they had kept all the money and valuables in a bank. Upon this, the gang collected seven mobile phones from the house and took away the child. They told the family that the boy would be released on the payment of a ransom.
The IO said the kidnappers had come on motorcycles. “We are searching for the kidnappers but so far they have not called the parents of the boy.”
He said the grandfather of the child was running a recruiting agency to send people abroad for employment.
The station house officer (SHO) of Banni police station, Nadeem Zafar, ruled out the possibility of a family dispute in the incident and said the police were investigating the matter. He said efforts were underway to recover the boy.
