PESHAWAR: A person was killed and another injured Tuesday when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated at the Bagh-e-Naran Chowk in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area, police said.

Initial reports suggest the explosion took place near a private school, which was closed at the time.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations said a security forces' convoy was passing by when it came under attack. No security personnel were injured in the blast, and the van also remained unhurt. However, two passers-by sustained injuries.

Rescue and security teams reached the site of attack.

The injured persons were shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex where one of the wounded passers-by succumbed to his injuries.

Hayatabad is a posh suburb of Peshawar on the south-western fringe of the city.
