KASUR: Farmers blocked the Allahabad intersection on Monday for the cancellation of cases against 200 farmers booked for ransacking the Lesco office and manhandling the officials.

The protesters threw traffic out of gear by erecting tents and parking tractor trolleys there.

Protesters ransacked a Rangers school van carrying students and manhandled the driver. They, however, retreated when a heavy contingent of Rangers arrived at the scene and resorted to baton charge the agitators, reporters and bystanders. Rangers officials took seven protesters into custody and handed them over to police. Four reporters also suffered injuries.

A few days back, Allahabad police had booked over 200 farmers for ransacking the Lesco office and manhandling officials after the officials refused to return their tube well meters.

On Monday, farmers under the banner of the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad demanded the cancellation of cases.

Allahabad police, on the complaint of Rangers official Muhammad Liaqat, registered a case against 37 farmers, including 17 nominated.

POLICE ATTACKED: Some suspected robbers attacked a police team and managed release of their accomplices from police custody here on Monday at Thathi Hinduvan.

Following a tip-off, a Kanganpura police party headed by SI Muhammad Ali raided the hideout of suspected robbers and arrested Tahir Islam, Sadam Husain, Shahid and Yasin. In the meantime, their accomplices, including Akram, attacked the team, tortured the policemen and managed release of the suspects.

‘HONOUR’ KILLING: Khudian police on Monday arrested a suspect who allegedly shot dead his wife in the name of honour at Lonayki.

Sadam Husain had married Samina a couple of years back. The couple was without issue. Sadam suspected that his wife had relations with her cousin.

On Sunday, he allegedly shot dead Samina and escaped. Police on Monday arrested Sadam and registered a case against him.
