ISLAMABAD: Unseeded Jibran-ul-Haq made it to the semi-final after outclassing six-seeded Usman Rafiq with the unseeded Jibran pressing ahead with stirring upsets at the Subh-e-Nau Earth Day National Clay Court Tennis Championship here on Sunday at the PTF Complex.

Also, promising youngster Mohammad Mudasir created a big upset when he eliminated second seed Mohammad Abid in the quarter-final.

Jibran, who made first upset on the opening day defeating fourth seed Yasir Khan, was in fine touch in the men’s single quarter-final against sixth seed Usman Rafiq beating his rival in three-set games.

In first set, experienced Usman outclassed Haq 1-6. However, the emerging youngsters made strong comeback winning the second set 6-3 before repeating the same performance in the third set.

U-18 national champion Mohammad Mudasir while stirring an upset in the men’s quarter-final defeated second seed Mohammad Abid in straight two sets 6-3, 7-5.

Top seed Aqeel Khan and Shahzad Khan also advanced to semi-finals in the men’s category by defeating their opponents with Aqeel outplaying Imran Shoukat 6-4, 6-2 while the latter securing win against Hira Aashiq in three-set games.

Shahzad was faced with defeat in the first set but managed to overcome his opponent in next two sets sealing convincing victory 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Also, Syed Nofil Kaleem, Mohammad Muzamil, Hamza-bin-Atif and Barkat Ullah advanced to semi-finals in boys’ U-18 quarter-finals.

On the other hand, Huzaifa Abudl Rehman outclassed Shoiab Khan 6-1. 62 while Shoaib Khan defeated Sami Zaib, 6-1, 64 in U-14 semi finals.

Singles quarter-final: Aqeel Khan bt Imran Shaukat 6-4, 6-2; Jibran-ul-Haq bt Usman Rafiq 1-6, 6-3, 6-3; Shahzad Khan bt Hira Aashiq 3-6, 6-3, 6-4; Mohammad Mudassir bt Mhammad Abid 6-3, 7-5.

Boys’ U-18:

Quarter-finals: Syed Noefal Kaleem bt Aman Atiq 6-3, 7-6(4); Hamza bin Atif bt Zaid Mujahid 6-3, 6-3; Barkatullah bt Talha Bin Asif 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2); Mohammad Muzammil bt Ilham Khan 6-3, 6-3.

Boys’ U-14:

Semi-finals: Huzaifa Abdul Rehman bt Aqib Umar 6-1, 6-2; Shoaib Khan bt Sami Zaib 6-1, 6-4.

Doubles:

Quarter-final: Yasir Khan and Shahzad Khan bt Rashid Khan and Ijaz Khan 6-1, 6-0; Imran Shaukat and Malik Abdul Rehman bt Imran Ullah and Irfan Ullah 6-2, 6-3; Mohammad Abid and Usman Rafiq bt Mohammad Muzammil and Mohammad Mudassir 6-3, 6-4.

Men’s Doubles:

First round: Noefal Kaleem and Abdaal Haider bt Ahmed Babar and Sikandar Hayat 6-3, 4-6 (10-4).
