ISLAMABAD: Finish investors expressed concerns over the lukewarm response of Pakistan over establishment of foreign funded non-traditional power plants in the country.

Speaking at the Second Finland-Pakistan Business Summit here on Wednesday, the Finnish investors said that they had submitted a proposal for setting up a 1,000 MW coal based power plant through private sector investment.

“The project would require around $1 billion investment and the projected sale price of electricity to the system would be 7.6 cents per unit,” said Wille Eerola, Chairman of the Finland-Pakistan Business Council.

“Besides there is a proposal to establish a mix solar-wind generation power plant in Pakistan,” Eerola added. He expressed hope that the Pakistan government would respond to their proposals.

The speakers at the summit highlighted that Finland, with a population of 5.5 million, was producing huge amount of electricity through various sources including ‘renewal’ which is eventually exported after fulfilling the local needs.

Mr Eerola, speaking on the occasion said that Finnish interest towards Pakistan was growing, adding: “Pakistani and Finnish companies could work together to develop sectors such as energy and Clean Tech areas.”
