KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday threw out an application of the wife of Moazzam Ali Khan, a prime suspect in the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Imran Farooq, for urgent hearing of her previous application against the possible shifting of her husband to some other city for interrogation.

Sadia Bano had earlier filed a constitutional petition against the detention of her husband in the SHC.

The application she filed on Wednesday said she learnt through the media that her husband was likely to be moved out of Karachi to some other place for interrogation. She said she and his other family members would not be able to meet the detainee in case he was shifted.

As per the court’s procedure, the suspect’s wife also filed an application for urgent hearing of her application against the possible shifting of her husband.

But a two-judge bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, dismissed the application for urgent hearing, observing that the main petition against Moazzam’s detention was already fixed for hearing on May 14 and the matter would be taken up on the next hearing.

Sadia Bano had earlier filed a constitutional petition against the arrest and detention of her husband by the Rangers. She submitted that the paramilitary force personnel raided her house in Federal B Area’s Block 8, Azizabad, in the early hours of April 12 and took away her husband and his belongings including a laptop.

She said the family contacted the area police to know about the whereabouts of her husband but the police officials feigned ignorance about the matter. She said the Rangers officials also were approached later but to no avail as they refused to give any information about her husband.

She asked the court to direct the home secretary, director general of the Rangers, Sindh police chief, Azizabad SHO and other officials to produce the detainee in court along with details of the criminal case, if any, made against him.
