NA-246 by-election: Mobile phones not to be allowed inside polling stations

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has banned voters from carrying mobile phones inside the polling stations for by-election in NA-246, Karachi –VIII. The ECP also directed all presiding officers to allow voting on expired CNICs of voters.

In a notification issued here on Tuesday, the ECP issued a notification that no-one would be allowed to carry mobile phones in the polling stations.

The restriction will also apply to local government polls which will be held on April 25 in cantonment areas across the country.

The polling staff is exempt from the ban.

The ECP also directed presiding officers to allow all voters showing original expired national identity cards to cast their votes in the by-election.

The ECP asked K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and no load-shedding or technical fault in the area on the polling day in NA-246.

The K-Electric assured the EC that there would be no loadshedding on the polling day in the area.
